A new season of Junior Masterchef has just started here. I didn’t watch the first season, but felt like giving this one a go.

I find it very inspiring how children can have such a passion for cooking. And they really got talent. A 13-year old girl made me feel like a total loser cook, when she announced that making bearnaise sauce is easy. Then went ahead and made bearnaise sauce from scratch, ribeye steak, and got best dish of the day.

I’ve never made bearnaise sauce from scratch. Not out of fear of failing. That’s not how I function. I usually believe that I can make anything, if I just try. Well, maybe except boning a duck. Or maybe that’s more due to the fact that I have absolutely no desire to bone a duck.

Anyway, back to the junior cooks. A big difference between the regular version, and the junior one is how willing the children are to help each other. It was really sweet!!

And I loved some of the comments they made. Like the girl who in an interview told about how she wants to become a pastry chef. And she also really, really wants a baby brother or sister. You just know her parents are gonna love that comment. Nah, probably not.

Two of the boys had become great friends. And this happened in the middle of a contest.

Boy 1: Would you care to enjoy a refreshing cola with me?

Boy 2: Of course, my friend.

Then they shared a cola, and went back to cooking. Now, why don’t the adults ever do that??

Ok, time to get down to serious business.

Do you love hummus??

I sure do!!

I know not everybody likes it, and I try not to hold it against them. I’m nice like that.

But come on, peanut butter and hummus combined. It was goooood!!!

You have to make it. Now would be good, but later is ok.

What You Need

  • 1 can chickpeas
  • 1 garlic clove, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons crunchy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon flaked sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon peanuts, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

What You Do

  1. Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
  2. Put them in a food processor with the garlic, olive oil, peanut butter, lemon juice, salt and cumin. And blitz, not too well, you wanna keep the crunch.
  3. Add Greek yogurt, and blitz again. Just to combine. Add more yogurt or oil if it's too thick.
  4. Taste, and add more seasoning or lemon juice if you feel like it.
  5. Serve in a bowl with peanuts and smoked paprika sprinkled on top.
